Date your wardrobe and fall back in love with your style
Written by Leanne Bodis
We’ve all been there, opening the wardrobe doors with a sense of disappointment and frustration, but what If I told you just four simple steps can help you fall back in love with your wardrobe this spring. Many of the clients I work with have reached a place where they feel lost in their style and when adding to this the pressure of dating, it’s easy to see how people end up feeling overwhelmed. Dating is all about expressing yourself, showcasing all of the nuances and for me, style should mirror this entirely. As a Stylist and Confidence Coach, it’s important to me that clients feel their wardrobe is an extension of their personality and puts their best foot forward. Check out my top tips below for re-lighting the spark with your style.
Get inspired
Get on Pinterest and Instagram and save looks you love. Notice what it is you love. Maybe the contrast of the smart tailoring paired with the sporty trainer? The bold print? Try creating outfits that mirror these qualities with your own wardrobe. You’ll soon find yourself realising just how many amazing outfits you already have!
2022 trends
Colour has a huge impact on our style and with one of 2022’s biggest trend being bold, vibrant colour pops, when better time to give it a try! The colours we wear often bring connotations and emote feelings which can be great when trying to make a first impression. Some of the best colours to wear when dating include; Red offering a sense of romanticism and passion whilst Blue emotes loyalty and a feeling of calm. Purple on the other hand, is the perfect blend offering romance and wisdom.
The foundation
Start with the foundations of it all, take some time to “date” your wardrobe, get to know it again. Put aside the trends and things you are told will look good and instead and ask yourself; do these pieces feel like me? Do they make me happy? Do I feel confident when I am wearing this?
the hero piece
More often than not you’ve lost the love for the pieces hanging in your wardrobe because you’ve simply not taken the time to make them work for you. Chose a piece which has been a little forgotten about, and make it your “Hero” piece for the week. The concept of this being you try to feature the item in as many outfits as possible to prove to yourself just how versatile it is.
When getting ready for a date we can often find ourselves dressing to please others or fit into a box, scrolling online for hours to find the perfect outfit. Of course preparation is key, having options you feel great in a few days ahead of time will eliminate those pre date nerves meaning you can walk in feeling amazing, but I challenge you to consider how do you want to feel on your date? Confident? Approachable? Sexy? Dress for you and no one else and the rest will follow.
